Mr. Solis' MODEL CEEL Paragraph
(1) Through research and personal experience, I have found that the claim is the hardest part of a CEEL paragraph to write because of the specificity and depth it demands. (2) According to the Thompson Writing Program at Duke University, "Broad claims are more difficult to support effectively than focused claims." (3) I fear that when I write, I often start with very general sentences and build to more specific sentences later. (4) Duke University, however, says that I should be focused from the start! (5) Furthermore, when writing a claim they suggest asking yourself, "Does your claim offer an interpretation of evidence or does it simply describe a situation?" (6) This question implies that my claim should lean towards the former and dive deep into the subject of my paragraph from the start. (7) Doing so would help my claim be more focused and specific as well. (8) Once I get use to writing claims, I can hopefully address how to end a CEEL paragraph.
